There's nothing much I can except that the food was absolutely delicious. Every dish was made and seasoned to perfection, with the flavors perfectly complimenting one another. The woman working took the time to explain to my family and I the ordering process and was very patient. Truly the only complaint I have is the lack of proper seating. Of course, the location does not hide their lack of dine-in options. But even so, it was very challenging eating broths and noodles while sitting on an assortment of benches and dealing with the strong wind. Overall, I still would high recommend dining here as the food was truly really really good - just find a day with low wind.
We found this place through yelp and decided to give it a try with all of the great reviews it had and we were not disappointed! There is not dine in option or seating available. You walk up to the door and order straight at the counter without even going in. The lady working the counter was nice, but didn't seem too enthusiastic if you asked her questions or for sauce on the side, other than that the service was good. They take your phone number once you place the order and text you when the food is ready and you just pick it up. Everything is packaged to go. There were a couple benches in the parking lot that you could sit on and wait, but not nearly enough for the amount of people waiting outside for their food. The food was amazing and one of the best that we had on the island. The chicken sandwich was massive and only $10 which is a steal. The chicken was super crispy, crunchy, and juicy - probably the best chicken sandwich that I have ever had! The fish sandwich also had a generous portion of fish that was super tasty and the tarter sauce brought everything together. The mochiko chicken is their signature dish and is phenomenal! The chicken is very crispy and juicy and the sauce on top is very tasty. Everything paired well together and we could not get enough of everything. Each item was very well executed and the price for everything was great, not overpriced. This is a place that we will definitely be back to next time we are on the island. This is a hidden gem!
Ugh this place is such a gem!! After arriving in Maui after a 5 hour flight, we were starving. We had so many options to choose from but I remember having this saved on my yelp from our last visit so we decided to give it a go and I'm so glad we did. We placed our order over the phone and arrived to a small little place that didn't really have any tables or anything but seemed to be very busy, even though it was near the end of the day. They are a small little place and have some benches outside where people were enjoying their food. We ordered chop steak which I'd rate a 3/5, Mochiko chicken - 5/5, Pork belly - 5/5, garlic noodles 2/5 and kimchi - 4/5. The food was very flavorful, I was impressed. I wasn't much of a fan of the garlic noodles as they were too fishy tasting for my liking but I was satisfied with everything else. I'd definitely be back to support and highly recommend them!
Beet Box - 5 Fat Chow Fun - 3.5 Garlic Noodles - 3 Beet box was awesome! Fat chow fun was fat but too bland for me Garlic noodles were garlicky good but I was expecting more than just carbs and garlic. Will def get the beet box again as it was awesome.
I saw all the reviews for this place so I had to try them out. I will keep this simple and to the point because there are already a ton of reviews for this place. 1. Poke - This is the best poke I have ever tried. I am from Hawaii too. I don't normally like spicy tuna poke but wow, they really nail it out of the park with this one. I like the addition of the tiny arare (mochi crunch) which gives it a little crunch. I wish I could make poke like this at home. 2. Chop Steak - This was also really good. They really go ham with the onions both green and yellow. They also have a lot of garlic in there. A classic "local dish" and they did a great job. 3. Fried Chicken Sandwich - Awful. Did not like at all. It is seriously "too big". Also it has too much sauce on it. The fried chicken had a bad after taste. When you are frying a piece of chicken this big it needs to stay in oil a long time, so it tastes sorta burnt. This not only is really bad for your health but it doesn't taste good either. I would actually prefer it to be like 1/4 of the size. This place gets 4 stars for having the best poke ever with a star removed for the worst fried chicken ever. Seriously get the poke it's so good!
TL;DR: Tinroof in central Maui is a convenient take-out spot with delicious offerings like mochiko chicken, saimin, and bibingka. Perfect for grabbing food on the way back from Hana or Haleakala. Tinroof, located in central Maui, is a perfect stop to pick up food on your way back from Hana or Haleakala. It's a take-out place with a couple of benches outside, ideal for a quick meal. I tried the mochiko chicken with kale salad, while my wife opted for the saimin, which is similar to ramen. We also ordered a side of kimchi and bibingka, a dessert similar to the Indian bebinca. The mochiko chicken was soft and juicy, and the sauce added a delightful spiciness to the kale salad, making it very delicious. The saimin was also good with a flavorful broth and noodles, but it was a little too much on salt. The kimchi served as a good side dish while enjoying the chicken. I was looking forward to the bibingka, but it came with birthday sprinkles on top. After removing the sprinkles, I enjoyed the soft dessert, which wasn't too sweet--just the way I like it.
Can confidently say that this is the best lunch spot on Maui. The flavors are INSANE!! I had very high expectations because of the amazing reviews and I was not disappointed. The chicken had so much flavor and was perfectly juicy and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend getting your meal animal style. I can't even put into words how good this meal was. My boyfriend got the ahi poke and said that it was the best poke that he has ever had. I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this spot. This was our first stop when we arrived to Maui and it made the trip off to a great start and also set very high expectations for the food. This may just be the best food we have on our trip. Believe me when I tell you that this is an absolute must try and get the chicken animal style!!! Insane.
Been here a few times on trips. I have to say the spicy ahi poke is among the best I've ever had! Literally phenomenal! Omg!! The fish sandwich was great. Think of a filet o fish on steroids. Really good. The garlic shrimp was good- but my wife wasn't prepared for it to be shell on peel and eat. If you're ready for that it's good. I tried it and liked it. You will get messy and garlicky. Such a great place!
